# Import your data

> Bring clients, contacts, invoices and recurring billing into Tillage from Harvest, Stripe, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet.

If you're moving from another tool, you can bring your clients and billing history with you rather than starting from scratch. This page shows what each import brings in, so you can pick the right one.

## Where to find imports

Go to **Utilities → Import Data** in the sidebar. You can also get there from **Clients → More → Import Clients**.

Each available source has a card listing what it imports and a **Start Import** button. Sources marked **Coming Soon** aren't available yet.

## Choose a source

| Source | What it brings in | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| **Harvest** | Clients, contacts, invoice history with line items, and recurring billing patterns | [Harvest import](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/harvest-import) |
| **Stripe Import** | Customers matched to clients, invoices, and active subscriptions as recurring invoices | [Stripe import](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/stripe-import) |
| **QuickBooks IIF** | Invoices and line items from a QuickBooks Desktop IIF file, with clients matched or created | [QuickBooks and CSV import](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/quickbooks-and-csv-import) |
| **CSV/JSON Import** | Clients or invoices from a CSV or JSON file, with your own column mapping | [QuickBooks and CSV import](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/quickbooks-and-csv-import) |

Direct imports from QuickBooks Online and FreshBooks aren't available yet. If you use them, export to a file and use **CSV/JSON Import**.

## Things to know before you import

- **Import clients first.** Invoice imports from Stripe and CSV need the client to exist, or to be matched or created during the import.
- **Only active Stripe subscriptions are imported.** Trialing, paused and cancelled subscriptions are left out. After importing, cancel the subscriptions in Stripe so clients aren't billed twice; the Stripe import offers a button to do this.
- **Imports change real data.** There's no one-click undo, so check your mapping and duplicate settings before you start. Some imports update existing records that match.
- **Duplicates.** If an import creates a client you already had, merge the two records. See [Clients and contacts](https://tillage.ai/docs/clients/clients-and-contacts#merge-duplicate-clients).

Connect Stripe before importing from it. See [Set up payments](https://tillage.ai/docs/getting-started/set-up-payments). Harvest needs a personal access token and account ID from Harvest; you can save them in **Team Settings → Import**.

## After importing

- Check your clients on the **Clients** page, and set primary contacts where needed.
- Check imported invoices under **Invoices**. While a large import runs, a progress banner on the **Invoices** page shows how far it's got.
- Review recurring billing under **Invoices → Billing Schedules**. See [Billing schedules](https://tillage.ai/docs/invoices/billing-schedules).
