# Service library

> Save the services you sell with default hours, rate and variance, then add them to quotes in a click.

The service library holds the work you quote again and again, such as a discovery workshop, a landing page build or a monthly SEO report. Each service stores a description, default hours, rate and variance, so adding it to a quote takes one click and your pricing stays consistent.

Open it from **Quotes → Services Library** in the sidebar, or click **Manage Services** from the service picker in a quote.

## Create a service

1. On the **Service Library** page, click **New Service**.
2. Enter a **Service Name**, for example "Custom website development".
3. Choose a **Category**, or click **+** to add your own (see [Categories](#categories)).
4. Write the **Service Description**. Use the toolbar for formatting and to insert variables, and switch between **Edit** and **Preview** to check it.
5. Set the **Default Quantity** (hours), **Default Price** (hourly rate) and **Default Variance (%)**, from 0 to 100.
6. Leave **Active Service** on so the service appears in the quote builder.
7. Click **Create Service**.

Name, description, quantity and price are required.

### Save a line from a quote

You can also build your library as you quote. On any line item with a title, click **Save to Library**. Tillage saves its title, description, quantity, rate and variance as a new service.

## Add a service to a quote

1. In the quote's **Line Items** card, click **Service**.
2. In **Choose a Service**, search for the service and click **Add Service**.

The new line copies the service's name, description, default quantity, price and variance. Change any of them on the quote; the service itself stays the same.

Only active services appear in the picker.

### Variables in descriptions

Service descriptions can include variables that are filled in from the quote and client, such as `{clientName}`, `{projectName}` or `{businessName}`. This keeps a description like "Discovery workshop for {clientName}" accurate on every quote. See [Smart variables](https://tillage.ai/docs/reference/smart-variables) for the full list.

## Manage services

Each service card shows its quantity, price, variance and an estimated total (before profit margin). Use the card menu to:

- **Edit** the service. Changes apply to future quotes, not ones you've already built.
- **Deactivate** a service you no longer offer. It's hidden from the quote builder but kept in your library. **Activate** brings it back.
- **Duplicate** it under a new name, to make a variation.
- **Delete** it permanently.

Use the search box and the **All Categories** and **All Status** filters to find services in a large library. The stats at the top show your total, active, AI-generated and user-created services.

## Categories

Every service has a category. Tillage includes Web Development, Mobile Development, Design & Branding, Marketing & SEO, Content Creation, Consulting, Maintenance & Support, E-commerce, Analytics & Reporting, Training & Education and Other.

To add your own, click **+** beside **Category** in the service form. In **Add Custom Category**, enter a **Category Name** and an optional description, then click **Add Category**.

## Services and templates

Services are the building blocks of [quote templates](https://tillage.ai/docs/quotes/quote-templates). When a template includes a service, it uses the service's current name, description and price each time it's applied, so updating a service updates every template that uses it.
