# Pricing and fees

> What Tillage costs, when the 1% platform fee applies, how it compares to Stripe's fees, and the cases where no fee is charged.

Tillage has one plan and it's free. The only charge is a 1% platform fee when a client pays you online, capped at $50 per invoice, and you can pass it to your client. This page is the reference for what's charged, when, and by whom.

Every feature is included. There's no paid tier. Usage is covered by the [Fair Use Policy](https://tillage.ai/fair-use-policy): if a team sends high invoice volumes but rarely collects payments through Tillage, we may get in touch about a custom arrangement.

## Fees on online payments

The platform fee is separate from Stripe's fee, not a replacement for it. Both default to your business absorbing them. To pass either to your client, see [Processing fees](https://tillage.ai/docs/invoices/processing-fees).

Stripe's rates above are its standard US prices, which Tillage uses to estimate and pass through fees. International cards, other countries and other bank debit methods are priced by Stripe and can differ. Your Stripe Dashboard shows the fee on each payment.

## When no Tillage fee applies

- **Offline payments.** Checks, wires, cash or anything you record with **Mark as Paid**.
- **Sending invoices and quotes.** Creating, sending and reminding are free.
- **Contracts and signatures.**
- **Imports and integrations**, including the API, webhooks and the MCP server.
- **Waived invoices.** If Tillage has turned on per-invoice fee overrides for your team, invoices marked **Waive Platform Fee**.

## Same price on either Stripe setup

The platform fee is 1% whether you connect your existing Stripe account or use a new Express account. The choice is about where your payment data lives. See [Stripe](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/stripe).

## AI drafting costs

AI line item drafting uses your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, so the provider bills your account for usage. Tillage doesn't charge for it. See [AI providers](https://tillage.ai/docs/integrations/ai-providers).

With both fees passed to your client, you receive the full invoice amount. On a $5,000 card payment, your client pays $5,201.13.

## Refunds
