Client portal
See what clients see when they open a quote, contract or invoice, download PDFs, pay online and use the billing dashboard.
Your clients never need a Tillage account. Every quote, contract and invoice has its own secure link, and each client has a billing dashboard that lists everything they owe. This page shows what clients see so you can answer their questions and send the right link.
How client links work
- Each document gets a unique link when you send it or mark it as sent.
- Links don’t expire, and search engines are told not to index them.
- Anyone with a link can open it, so share links only with the right people.
- Drafts aren’t visible to clients. They see a message that the document is still being prepared.
To check what a client sees, use Preview on the document. Previews show a Preview Mode banner and don’t count as a client view.
Every client page shows your logo and business name. Your primary brand color is used on quotes, invoices and contracts. Set these in Business and branding. A small “Powered by Tillage” footer appears on every page.
Quotes
The client sees the project name, quote number, date, your introduction text, the line items and totals, and your notes. They click Approve Quote or Decline. After they respond, they can Download PDF.
See Send and approve.
Contracts
The client reads the full contract, including deliverables, timeline and payment schedule, and sees the Signatures section with your company’s signature already in place. They click Sign Contract, enter their name and draw their signature.
Once signed, the contract shows Signed, and the client can download it from the … menu with Download PDF. If the contract created invoices, the confirmation screen shows Next Step: Complete Payment with a Pay Now button for each.
See Signatures.
Invoices
The invoice page shows the invoice number, dates, line items, totals and notes, with Download PDF and Pay Invoice buttons. When the invoice is paid, the page shows Invoice Paid.
Paying online
- The client clicks Pay Invoice.
- Under Who is paying this invoice?, they choose their name from the client’s contacts, or Use a different email address.
- If they’ve saved a payment method before, they can use it, or choose Use a different payment method.
- They choose Credit Card or Bank Transfer. Each option shows whether fees are added.
- They review the Total and click Pay.
Bank transfer appears only where your country and currency support it. US bank payments can take 1–3 business days; the client sees Payment Initiated until it clears. Some bank accounts need verifying first, shown as Bank Account Verification Required.
If you pass fees to clients, the added amount is shown before they pay. See Processing fees.
After paying, the client sees Payment Successful! and can click View All Invoices to open their billing dashboard.
PDFs
Clients can download a PDF of any quote, contract or invoice from its page. PDFs show your business details under From, the client under Bill To, the line items, totals and notes. Unpaid invoice PDFs include a Pay Online link when you accept online payments.
You can download the same PDFs in Tillage from each document’s … menu with Download PDF.
Billing dashboard
The billing dashboard shows a client all their open invoices in one place, with recent payments. Use it for clients with several invoices, or when someone asks “what do we owe?”.
It lists:
- Outstanding: the total the client owes
- Open Invoices: each unpaid invoice with its due date, status and amount, and a Pay button. The menu has View Invoice and Download PDF.
- Recently Paid: payments from the last 60 days
Share the billing dashboard
- On the client, open Client actions and choose Copy Billing Link.
- Or use Copy Billing Dashboard Link on an invoice.
Then paste the link into an email. The client needs at least one invoice with a link for this to work.
The dashboard is reached through one of the client’s invoice links, so anyone with any of that client’s invoice links can see all of the client’s open and recently paid invoices with you. Treat these links like a statement you’d only send to the client.
Update a saved payment method
Clients can add or replace the card or bank account used for automatic payments.
- Open the client and go to the Payment tab.
- Under Saved payment methods, click Send link.
- Check the Recipient email and message, then click Send email, or Copy link to send it yourself.
The client opens the link, enters their new details, ticks the box authorizing you to save it, and clicks Save payment method. The new method becomes their default. The link works for 30 days.
The client needs to have paid online at least once before you can send this link.
